How scores work
Scores are designed to spread: 9-10 is rare, most good tools land at 6-8. Scores compare tools generally; use-case rankings in use-cases.json are ordered by fit for that job, not by overall score.
Adoption is an editorial estimate. Sponsored placements never change scores or organic rankings.
Capability
0–4
1-4. 4 = category-defining, reserved for a few leaders; 3 = strong, does the job well; 2 = solid but narrow or with notable gaps; 1 = limited.
Value
0–2
0-2. 2 = usable free tier AND paid entry <= $10/mo; 1 = free tier OR reasonable entry price; 0 = no free tier and pricey, or price could not be verified.
Ease of use
0–2
0-2. 2 = useful result in minutes with no setup; 1 = some setup or learning curve; 0 = requires coding, terminal or infrastructure knowledge.
Adoption (estimate)
0–2
0-2. Editorial ESTIMATE of adoption/community signals (not measured data). 2 = category leader; 1 = established; 0 = niche or new.
The total is the sum of the four components, up to 10. Use-case pages keep the order stored in use-cases.json, which is fit for that job. A 9 can sit below a 7 when the 7 fits the job better.
